The Davutpasa Medrese in Fatih was commissioned by Grand Vizier Koca Davut Pasha in 1485 during the reign of Sultan Bayezid II, representing a significant example of pre-classical Ottoman architecture. Characterized by a traditional U-shaped plan organized around an open courtyard, the structure originally housed sixteen student cells and a prominent domed classroom built with alternating layers of stone and brick. While the identity of its original architect remains undocumented, the building underwent extensive reconstruction by Chief Architect Tahir after the devastating 1766 earthquake. Currently repurposed as a specialized research and education center, the medrese continues its legacy as an academic hub while preserving its historical integrity within the broader Davutpasa social complex.
