The architectural design of the St. Regis Istanbul prioritizes “situation” by harmonizing with the early 20th-century urban fabric of the Maçka-Nişantaşı-Teşvikiye district, maintaining established principles of density, proportion, and continuity. The building employs a Neo-classical tripartite order—base, body, and cornice—to integrate retail activity into the streetscape while organizing its residential volume across three sides. This structural logic is further refined by a responsive facade that mediates between the dense urban containment of Abdi İpekçi Street and the natural openness of Maçka Valley; by utilizing a dynamic lamella folding shutter system, the design balances solar protection with views of the Bosphorus, resulting in a unique architectural “third species” at its southern corner that shifts according to environmental conditions and user preference.
