Cengiz Bektaş House transforms a wooden house in Kuzguncuk, which Bektaş acquired in a dilapidated state in the late 1980s, into a beautiful home that will host his family. Initially met with skepticism by the neighborhood residents, he describes his initiative as follows: “..it was not gentrification in the western sense that I was doing. It wasn’t about luxury renovation.. It was just like repairing a shoe. My neighbors had started to realize that their houses were not to be neglected.”
Kuzguncuk Cengiz Bektaş Architecture Workshop: Bektaş is restoring a wooden structure and is using the lower floor as an office instead of charging a restoration fee. He is reorganizing this space as his own workshop. From here, there is a door that leads to Bektaş’s house in the adjacent building.
