Famous Italian architect Renzo Piano, who designed the Istanbul Modern, visited the structure in Istanbul with his team after the opening in 2023. The building holds a special position among Piano’s designs, with Hagia Sophia and the Historic Peninsula on one side and the Galata Tower and Beyoğlu on the other.
Piano: “We aimed to create a building that establishes a transparent relationship between the water on one side and the Galata area on the other, like a sea creature that has jumped out of the waters of the Bosphorus. We designed a space that seems to be suspended in the air, with nothing to obstruct the view.”
