The Grand Tarabya Hotel stands on a site with a rich hospitality history, originally occupied by the summer branch of the Tokatlıyan Hotel designed by Alexandre Vallaury, which was tragically destroyed by fire in 1954. The current modernist structure was commissioned by the Pension Fund and designed by architect Kadri Eroğan, with construction spanning from 1957 to 1965 before its official opening in 1966. As one of Istanbul’s earliest five-star hotels, it became an architectural landmark of the Bosphorus, characterized by its linear modernist aesthetic and commanding presence overlooking the Tarabya Bay. In 2013, the hotel underwent an extensive renovation led by Tabanlıoğlu Architects, which modernized the interiors and facade while preserving its iconic silhouette as a significant example of mid-century Turkish modernism.
