Designed by the legendary Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan in the mid-16th century (circa 1556), the Hüsrev Kethüda Ortaköy Hammam stands as a significant landmark of classical Ottoman engineering in the Ortaköy district of Beşiktaş. Commissioned by Hüsrev Kethüda, the steward of Grand Vizier Semiz Ali Pasha, the structure was originally built as a double bath (çifte hamam), featuring symmetrical, separate sections for men and women. Architecturally, the building exemplifies Sinan’s mastery of proportion and durability, utilizing a robust masonry of alternating stone and brick topped by characteristic lead-covered domes that define its silhouette. While its original function was to serve the social and hygienic needs of the local community, the structure has undergone extensive restoration in recent years and has been repurposed into a cultural and design center, successfully blending its historical 16th-century soul with contemporary artistic exhibitions.
