Situated in the heart of the historic Pera district, the Palazzo Donizetti Hotel serves as an elegant example of early twentieth-century Istanbul architecture. Designed by the esteemed architect Adamantios Karatzas around 1900, the building was originally conceived as a high-end residential and commercial apartment block during the district’s rapid modernization. The structure is celebrated for its neoclassical facade and sophisticated interior details, including high ceilings, hand-carved Italian Carrara marble, and one of the city’s oldest original wooden elevators. Named after Giuseppe Donizetti, the Italian musician who played a pivotal role in the Ottoman imperial court, the building underwent a comprehensive restoration before reopening as a boutique hotel in 2010. By preserving its Art Nouveau influences and historical character, the hotel continues to represent the cosmopolitan heritage of Beyoğlu while functioning as a bridge between Istanbul’s imperial past and its contemporary urban life.
