Designed by Teğet Mimarlık and completed in 2024 on the site of the former Abdi İpekçi Arena in Zeytinburnu, the Basketball Development Center stands as an expansive urban campus situated between the historic Istanbul Land Walls and the Balıklı Greek Hospital. Rather than following the conventional model of an introverted, monolithic stadium, the project is conceived as a basketball village that fosters urban permeability through a sequence of internal streets, courtyards, and plazas. The architectural design features seven distinct volumes clad in a monolithic plastered shell, with a staggered roofline that respects the scale and silhouette of the adjacent historical fortifications. Integrating a ten-thousand-seat main arena with youth training facilities, a basketball museum, and a library, the complex serves as a multidisciplinary hub where athletic activities are seamlessly woven into the everyday social and cultural life of the city.
