Completed in 2023, Teğet Mimarlık’s İşbank Painting Sculpture Museum on İstiklal Caddesi is an adaptive re-use of a 1907 apartment building later converted into a bank branch by Türkiye İş Bankası. The project preserves the historic shell—its rooms, atmosphere, patina, main staircase, and façade logic—while inserting a new reinforced-concrete “core” that carries services and creates contemporary museum-scale galleries. This produces a clear spatial contrast between brighter historic rooms and darker, controlled core galleries, with public functions at street level, exhibitions above, and a restaurant at the top.
