The Shangri-La Bosphorus Hotel occupies a historically significant building originally constructed in 1929 as the Austro-Turk Tobacco Warehouse, a prominent industrial structure designed by the architect Victor Adaman. Located on the Beşiktaş waterfront, this early Republican era landmark underwent a comprehensive transformation led by Turgut Toydemir of Piramit Architecture and officially opened as a luxury hotel in May 2013. Architecturally, the project is celebrated for its successful adaptive reuse, which meticulously preserved the original neoclassical facade while implementing an ambitious top-down construction method to create seven subterranean levels below the Bosphorus water table. The interior design further enhances this fusion of heritage and modernity by blending opulent Ottoman aesthetics with the refined Asian hospitality elements characteristic of the Shangri-La brand.
