Maçka Palas, now housing Park Hyatt Istanbul, was designed by the acclaimed Italian-Levantine architect Giulio Mongeri and completed in 1922. Commissioned by the Italian merchant and contractor Vincenzo Caivano, the structure was inspired by the majestic palazzos of Milan and features a unique architectural synthesis of Italian Renaissance styles and Ottoman motifs, aligning it with the First National Architecture Movement. Originally conceived as a prestigious rental apartment for diplomats of the nearby Italian Embassy, the building was erected on the site of a former palace that belonged to Münire Sultan. Over the decades, it became a residence for distinguished cultural figures, including the poet Abdülhak Hamit Tarhan and novelists such as Kerime Nadir and Safiye Erol. After undergoing a comprehensive restoration process that maintained its original masonry facade while updating its interior for modern luxury, the landmark reopened as a hotel in November 2008.
