Located in the heart of Istanbul’s dense Mecidiyeköy district, the Mecidiyeköy Towers project repurposes a vast land formerly occupied by the 1930s Robert Mallet-Stevens designed Liqueur and Cognac Factory and the Galatasaray football stadium. The project addresses the site’s history where the original factory had lost its architectural aura through neglect and the stadium remained a closed-off structure within the city center. By bidding to private investors for maximal development, the project strategically preserves a twenty-thousand-square-meter area as a green city park and breathing zone along Büyükdere Street to counteract the heavy traffic and congested urban texture. This holistic approach includes the cultural re-construction of the factory and the placement of private functions, such as green offices with internal gardens and a hotel, toward the southern part of the site. The five high-rise towers aim to redefine the conventional residential lifestyle by adopting a vertical city principle, utilizing mass fragmentation and strategically placed sky gardens to ensure the structures appear lighter within the urban fabric while maximizing panoramic views for all occupants.
